Technical Requirements For Butt-welded Elbows

Butt-Weld Elbow is a commonly used pipe fitting in the piping system, used to change the direction of the fluid. Its material usage, technical requirements and inspection must comply with relevant standards.
The welding elbow material is the core of new materials and plays a significant role in promoting and facilitating the development of high-end materials. Among new materials, the material accounts for approximately 85%. When using butt-welding elbows, they should be kept clean regularly and the transmission threads lubricated periodically. Once a fault is detected, the machine should be stopped immediately to identify the cause of the fault. Pressing and welding elbows are used to connect two pipes with the same nominal diameter and rotate the pipes by 90 degrees.
Material Requirements
A material certificate (MTC) must be provided, including chemical composition, mechanical properties (tensile strength, yield strength), etc.
The sheet materials/pipe materials must comply with standards such as ASTM A105 (forged steel) and ASTM A106 (welded pipe).
Inspection and Acceptance
1. Visual Inspection
There are no cracks, inclusions, pores, etc. on the surface. The inner wall is smooth without burrs.
The markings are clear (including material, specification, pressure grade, standard number).
2. Dimension Inspection
Use calipers and thickness gauges to verify whether the outer diameter, wall thickness, angle, etc. are in accordance with the drawings.

Penetrant Testing (PT)
Notes for Attention
Special environment: The acidic medium must comply with NACE MR0175 (anti-sulfide stress cracking).
Compatibility: The material of the elbow must be the same as or compatible with the material of the pipeline (to avoid electrochemical corrosion).
By strictly selecting materials, implementing manufacturing control and conducting inspections, the safety and reliability of the butt-welded elbows can be ensured.
