317 Stainless Steel

Stainless Steel 317 is a molybdenum-containing austenitic stainless steel that offers enhanced corrosion resistance compared to the more common 304 and 316 grades. This alloy is particularly valued for its superior performance in aggressive environments, making it a preferred choice in various industrial applications where corrosion resistance is paramount.
One of the key advantages of Stainless Steel 317 is its outstanding corrosion resistance. It performs exceptionally well in a wide range of corrosive media, including sulfuric acid, acetic acid, and other organic acids. Its resistance to chloride-induced corrosion makes it suitable for applications in marine environments, chemical processing plants, and coastal infrastructure. The alloy also shows good resistance to oxidation at elevated temperatures, up to approximately 870°C (1600°F), making it useful in high-temperature applications such as heat exchangers and furnace components.
