321 Stainless Steel
321 is a titanium-stabilized austenitic stainless steel, classified under UNS S32100. Its composition includes 17.0-19.0% Cr, 9.0-12.0% Ni, and 0.15% minimum titanium—added to bind carbon, preventing carbide precipitation.
This stabilization eliminates intergranular corrosion after exposure to 425-815°C (800-1500°F), a key advantage over non-stabilized grades. It offers excellent oxidation resistance up to 870°C and maintains strength at elevated temperatures.

Feature
321 stainless steel is a titanium-stabilized austenitic grade that builds upon 304 stainless steel by adding 0.3%-0.7% titanium, significantly improving its resistance to intergranular corrosion. The titanium preferentially bonds with carbon to form titanium carbides, effectively preventing chromium carbide precipitation within the sensitization temperature range (425-860°C). This makes it particularly suitable for welded components and high-temperature applications (maximum service temperature: 900°C), where it demonstrates excellent performance in oxidizing acid media, though its resistance to chloride stress corrosion remains limited. The material maintains similar workability and weldability to 304 (requiring titanium-containing filler metals), and is non-magnetic in solution-annealed condition.

High-Temperature Components: Aircraft engine exhaust pipes, heat exchangers (long-term use below 800°C).
Chemical Equipment: Strong acid-resistant containers, welded pipelines (titanium element inhibits chromium carbide precipitation).
