Feature
Stainless Steel 310S owes its performance to its unique chemical composition. With 24-26% chromium, it forms a protective oxide layer, ensuring excellent high-temperature oxidation resistance. The 19-22% nickel content stabilizes its austenitic structure, enhancing ductility and thermal fatigue resistance. Its low carbon content (max 0.03%) prevents carbide precipitation, reducing intergranular corrosion risks.
In terms of mechanical properties, 310S excels across temperatures. At ambient conditions, it has a minimum tensile strength of 515 MPa and yield strength of 205 MPa, with 40% elongation at break. Notably, it maintains strength and creep resistance above 1000°C, outperforming many peers.
Corrosion resistance defines 310S. It withstands continuous use at up to 1150°C and intermittent exposure at 1200°C without severe oxidation. It resists sulfuric atmospheres and industrial corrosives well, though its chloride pitting resistance is similar to 304. Its low carbon allows welding without post-weld annealing, preserving its corrosion resistance.
